Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and is one of the main ports of call for the cruise lines. It is the home of many historic sites such as Fort Fincastle. At the top of the fort is the water tower and lighthouse, which is 126 feet tall and provides an all around view of Nassau. The Queens Staircase which just below the fort is believed to have been cut from solid limestone by slaves in the 1790's to provide an escape route from Fort Fincastle to town. In addition to the historic sites they have one of the largest straw markets in the islands. A quick trip over the bridge takes you to Paradise Island where all the luxurious hotels are with their attractions such as underwater fish viewing or gambling in the casino.
